Dubious fashionista, pop icon, club DJ, theatrical impresario, columnist: Boy George is a seductive, alarming advert for the opportunities that fame brings. On U Can Never B 2 Straight, the man who has hidden behind epic productions and lashings of lipstick gives us unadorned slices of autobiography. This is George naked - and it's not nearly as unpleasant a sight as you might expect. These largely acoustic songs reacquaint us with his tremulous, soulful vocals and cutting lyrical style. He mocks a married "tough guy" locked in the closet in Unfinished Business and describes another ex-love as "the weight I need to lose" in Fat Cat. Il Adore, by contrast, is a moving, theatrical goodbye to friend Leigh Bowery. George's choice of subtlety over sequins is a good one.
