Bullet For My Valentine, The Poison

Sarah Boden: Up-and-coming Welsh metal merchants flex their muscles.

Bullet For My Valentine are a disorientating prospect. Not least because they give Wales's reputation as a hushed place a thoroughly good kicking. For their first album proper, the Bridgend quartet take on the American metal contingent with magnificent fury. 'Suffocating Under Words of Sorrow' is a dense barrage of swaggering riffs, lashed out at breakneck speed, that flaunt Matt Tuck's lacerating vocal. In contrast, the insistent chorus of 'Tears Don't Fall' shows that like fellow countrymen Lostprophets, they've tempered the intensity with a grasp of killer pop hooks that bodes well for the future.
