We Love Yule brings together the We Love You label's festive singles of the past five years, although Royksopp's Tristesse Globale and the Bees' Lying in the Snow are so gloomy that the only Christmas feeling they conjure up is the one brought on by opening presents containing socks. Maybe that's the point, as suggested by Diefenbach's Christmas Mourning - another morose epic, but easily the best thing here.
Four new tracks reach gingerly for the party hats. Paul Steel's Making Sense of Christmas is a Beach Boys cheese slice; Bent's lovely Winter Wonderland features Cathy Davey singing cutesy. But the joke of Shawn Lee's I'll Be F***ing You This Christmas is only funny for as long as it takes to say the title. Maybe these folk really hate Yule after all.
