Duets

Part of a two album collection that sees the classic Fulsom/San Quentin live sets repackaged together as the Prisons, Duets shows a human being behind the outlaw image. Recorded with his wife, Cash's wild past is given a sly hint in a knowing take on Dylan's It Ain't Me Babe. But otherwise these are songs of domesticity and love. He may have been the Man in Black, but clearly Cash took long walks by the river with the other half. Certainly, the sound of the Cashes trading comic insults - "You big mouthed woman!" "Yaw long-legged guitar pickin' man!" - suggests that life Chez Cash was never dull.
