Corroncho: Corroncho

A salsa, reggae and rural folk romp by Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera and Lucho Brieva, writes Neil Spencer

In Colombia, "Corroncho" is slang for the hicks who live on the coast, which is where Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera and artist Lucho Brieva trace their families. The pair clearly enjoyed themselves on this celebration of two amigos on the loose. It swings easily through styles; four-to-the-floor salsa on "Lowrider", Manu Chao-style reggae on "Rosa", rural folk laced with clarinet and squeezebox on "Para Ti Nengón". There are famous pals on board and Spanish versions of Dylan's "Forever Young" and Chrissie Hynde's "Complicated". A lovely romp.
