TVOTR multi-instrumentalist and producer Dave Sitek's reputation as a true innovator rests largely on his ability to negotiate some of pop's trickiest balances: rootsy/modern, man/machine, head/hips. These elements are blended to fine effect on TVOTR's terrific fifth record. Marvel though you will at the futuristic arrangements, they are pressed into the service of timeless musical pleasures – the thrilling ire of protest music, the lascivious strut of funk. Vocalist Tunde Adebimpe meanwhile is irresistible, by turns agitator, bluesman and sidewalk evangelist.
