Riding the garage band revival with what they term "blissed out buzzsaw", these California girls began as one lady, Dee Dee, whose possible references for her then solo-project's name include Iggy Pop ("Dum Dum Boys") and Talk Talk ("Dum Dum Girl"). Suitably then, theirs is a retrograde sound: their first LP overlays scuzzy guitars with 60s girl-group harmonies as they rattle through 11 near-perfect pop songs about teen heartache and stints in the county jail. Heavy on the reverb but light of heart, they're worthy contenders for the soundtrack of your summer.
