Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip: The Logic of Chance

The hip-hop duo's tracks on knife crime and disaffected youth are more worthy than worth listening to, writes Gareth Grundy

Dan Le Sac is a producer, Scroobius Pip an MC, and together the duo are best known for "Thou Shalt Always Kill", a minor novelty from 2007 that was an occasionally amusing, sometimes worthy lament for modern life. They've never bettered it, and apply the same tone to every topic. On their second album this means knife crime, representative democracy and, on "Get Better", an ode to youth that starts out hug-a-hoodie but whose conclusion - "it's a case of self-motivation" - is distinctly Thatcherite. Like being lectured by an irritatingly trendy supply teacher.
