Alesha Dixon: The Alesha Show

Considering her rich backstory it's a shame this album's top-name producers didn't imagine some better tunes, says Ally Carnworth

Alesha Dixon's backstory - celebrity relationship heartbreak, years in the pop wilderness and then redemption by talent TV - is the stuff of hitmakers' dreams. Odd then that the top-name producers drafted in to sprinkle stardust on the Strictly Come Dancing winner's comeback couldn't have mustered some better tunes. Mambo-tinged current single 'The Boy Does Nothing' is infectious enough but sounds lacklustre by the standards of its creators, Xenomania. And though the kittenish R&B of 'Italians Do it Better' and empowerment ballad 'Can I Begin' are functional, nothing here possesses half the sass and sparkle of the best manufactured pop.
