Lauren Pritchard: Wasted in Jackson – review

The 22-year-old country-pop singer's debut is slick and punchy, says Killian Fox

Track one of Lauren Pritchard's debut album is an apologia for a dull but dependable relationship. "If I'm stuck," she sings, "then at least I'm stuck with you." It's a misleading intro, given that the big-voiced 22-year-old spends most of Wasted in Jackson singing about getting out of ruts, romantic or otherwise. The title track refers to her escape from her Tennessee hometown at 16. After stints in LA and New York, Pritchard wound up in west London writing this punchy country-pop LP with hit-maker Eg White. Her lyrics have a bitter edge but White's slick production makes them go down easily.
