Londoners Morgan Zarate and Acyde boast an impressive CV, including production work for Kanye West, but that doesn’t prepare you for the delirious pleasures of their debut. It’s a rich, pungent stew of a dance record, laden with psychedelic sounds and blended with wit, originality and mischief. Reference points bubble up periodically – the carnivalesque abandon of early Basement Jaxx, the strutting funk of Afrobeat – and time spent with this record through headphones yields plenty of submerged delights. But it’s wasted as anything other than a party record; head-swirlingly intoxicating and making irresistible demands of your hips and feet.
