King Creosote and Jon Hopkins: Diamond Mine – review

Seven years in the making, this inspired collaboration between King Creosote and Jon Hopkins was worth the wait, writes Hermione Hoby

Kenny Anderson (King Creosote) and Hopkins took seven unhurried years to select songs from Anderson's prodigious back catalogue and pair them with instrumentation and the care they've taken shines through. Every track is a gem, sounding timeworn in the very best way. The album opens with the gentle clatter of a church tea in a Fife village, before leisurely spooling into a spare piano melody and Anderson's tender vocals. When it ends with the lullaby of "Your Young Voice", a song about fatherhood as a sort of salvation, it feels as though a whole life has passed in between.
