Still only 29, dancehall DJ Moses "Beenie Man" Davis is already a legend in Jamaica, where he has been involved in a staggering 60 hit singles. The follow-up to 1999's Grammy-winning Art and Life is his bid for the rest of the world, and if this doesn't do it, nothing will. The guest list includes Janet Jackson, who is a fetching counterpoint to a macho Beenie on the irresistible pop single Feel It Boy; Li'l Kim trots out a faintly ridiculous Jamaican accent on the hip-hoppy Fresh From Yard (supposedly a fraught collaboration, but you wouldn't know it from the way her mumbled obscenities meld with his); and So Solid Crew's Mega Man trades ragga verses on Yagga Yo. But none of it would matter if Beenie Man weren't a toaster with a spirit as expansive as his voice. Touching on women, gang life and the responsibility of being the guy all the girls want, he has concocted an inclusive, can't-fail brew.
