He is instantly recognisable by the timbre of his voice alone, a voice that has scarcely changed in more than 50 years of recording. You will have heard it in many settings, from full orchestra to his own little band, the Blue Flames, but never as exposed as this. Accompanied only by subdued guitar and bass (Primoz Grasic and Mario Mavrin), Fame delivers a dozen perfect miniatures, about half and half standards and his own compositions. I particularly like his song in tribute to the late Blossom Dearie, warm and heartfelt, but also witty and done with the lightest of touches.
