Bebel, daughter of the great Joao Gilberto and Brazilian singer Miucha, has the bossa nova lilt printed in her chromosomes, but she has also spent time in New York working on assorted dance-crossover projects, and the disc reflects both musical poles.

The material ranges from the 1960s bossa nova of Samba da Bencao and So Nice (Summer Samba) to old and new compositions by Bebel herself.

Lonely offers useful clues to her approach, combining slinky Brazilian rhythms with discreet instrumental programming to achieve maximum chill-out. It all slips down a treat, if a trifle repetitively.
