The Dandy Warhols

Having doomed themselves to be for ever remembered as the band from the Vodafone commercial, you might have thought the Dandies would at least exploit the opportunity to sound as if they are at the cutting edge of digital technology. Sadly not.

Vocalist Courtney Taylor-Taylor was never the most colourful performer to start with, but the monotone nature of most of this material has condemned him to "sing" in a blank whisper, while the music mostly resembles a wet afternoon.

With Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes all over the credits as co-producer and synth-player, you might at least have expected a few blasts of cheesy pop sensibility, but the band rarely manage to break out of their self-imposed drabness (though The Dandy Warhols Love Almost Everyone and I Am Sound are exceptions). A mysterious non-event.
