It’s Advent, so time to think about music for the Christmas season. Here, composer and arranger Michael Bojesen offers some fresh thinking on some old favourites, sung with admirable clarity by the Danish National Vocal Ensemble, supported by some scurrying descants from the woody-toned recorders of Michala Petri. Gabriel’s Message, It Came upon the Midnight Clear, In Dulci Jubilo and Infant Holy, Infant Lowly are just some of the 17 carols given a harmonic wash and brush-up, recorded amid the terrific acoustics of the spectacular Danish Radio Concert Hall, Copenhagen. Nothing is exactly as you know it, and yet it’s all soothingly familiar too. Just add mince pies.
