Themroc's Dan Peppe has already achieved presumably unwelcome tabloid notoriety as the "other man" DJ who came between Norman Cook and Zoe Ball. Cook can at least console himself that Ball wasn't lured away by better tunes.
Recorded by Peppe with former Monkey Mafia partner Steve White, Beyond These Things serves up a collection of house, electro and occasional unknown guest vocalists but promises rather than delivers. The explosive opening section of Gold Is Your Meat aside, there is something amateur and not particularly rhythmical about much of the album, which shows that DJs don't always make good musicians.
When Themroc get it together, on the more thoughtful Sunken City and Yellow Dog, they can create more of an atmosphere, but the results are a bit bland and lacking in personality.
