Throughout the 1990s, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds was the definitive honeytonsilled, lust-propelled Mr Loverman. Then R&B embraced booty and left his mid-tempo romance looking distinctly pre-watershed. After his attempt to update his style with the falsetto funk of 2001's Face 2 Face album met with failure, Edmonds is now dragging us back over old ground for an hour of boredom. The sighs are resigned, the songs ultra-smooth and utterly soulless. Can't Stop Now is all pressure, pleading and unintentional hilarity: "'Cos you know it'd be too hard/ If we stopped right now/ And it didn't go down," he pines, like Craig David starring in a Dick Emery sketch. For a man once so culturally important they named a stretch of Interstate 65 after him, this is a road to hell.
