Think of One, Trafico

Trafico by Think of One

Coming from Antwerp and clearly determined to take on the world, Think of One can never be accused of playing it safe. They are a group of often over-exuberant Belgians who specialise in travelling to check out different musical styles.

Their latest venture has taken them to north-east Brazil to record with local musicians, with decidedly mixed results. There's everything here from beefed-up jazzy lounge pieces to sections where singer David Bovee sounds as if he is trying to move into Manu Chao territory, with cool, half-spoken vocals matched against furious percussion and impressive brass work.

Tahina starts as a gentle mood piece featuring a female chorus and ends up as a frantic thrash. It doesn't all work, but the energy and enthusiasm are impressive.
