Mostly-girl Brazilian sextet CSS must be among the coolest bands in the world. Their Cansei de Ser Sexy album mixes up cred landmarks from the past 20 years to sound like a fusion of the Rezillos, the Rapture, Giorgio Moroder and latin-tinged dance culture. No surprise then that since the album's rave reviews, their life has been a whirl. Their stageshow reflects a sense of a chic band in a spin, as one or two members struggle to retain smouldering, aloof poses while the vocalists and guitarists explode in flailing riffs and disintegrating hairstyles.

However, there's a sense that CSS's cool may not be as impeccable as we thought. It's disappointing to see vocalist Lovefoxxx descending into aged showbiz techniques, such as urging the crowd to wave their arms from side to side. From then on, things slide into Butlins compere hell, as Lovefoxxx asks, "What's your favourite drink?" to receive beery shouts of "Guinness!"

The whiff of karaoke cheese isn't helped by technical problems that mean melodies are lost and songs are punctuated by cries of "turn the keyboards up". A nadir is reached when Lovefoxxx introduces a "really sexy" song only to preview the wrong tune. When the "sexy one" - signature tune Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above - finally arrives, Lovefoxxx is carried aloft by the crowd. It's not spontaneous - she asks them to do it beforehand - but at least it polishes up the gig in a shimmer of disco mayhem. However, if they ever pause for breath, their cool may need further restoration.
