Aim, Flight 602

Languid hip hop exponent hits the target once again

Barrow (in Furness) boy Andy Turner's third LP is his first since the demise of his former outlet, Grand Central. Having always had one eye on the far horizons, Aim's work has, if anything, become even more languid in the four years since Hinterland. Even on 'Pier 57', named after the makeshift detention centre housing anti-Bush demonstrators during the 2004 Republican Convention, his sound is wide open, twittering birds accompanying a pastoral Stax riff. The odd snatch of hip hop bounce remains, but Flight 602 finds Aim drifting profitably among the clouds.
