With a hall of fame including Pulp, Arctic Monkeys and the Long Blondes, Sheffield's greatest contribution to pop has been the wryly observational take on everyday life. But the debut album by new local heroes Bromheads Jacket feels long on the mundane stuff and short on genuine insight. Purveyors of an arch punk-thrash vaguely resembling Blur's self-consciously heavier moments, they know their way around a tune. Yet the incessant pop culture references resemble a bizarre form of Tourette's ('Nokia phones! The Atkins diet! David Blunkett!').
