This is the great American soprano's homage to the diva superstars of the early 20th century - Mary Garden, Lotte Lehman and Geraldine Farrar. The Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev create an atmospheric period backdrop (only the vinyl scratches are missing), and there are arias from Tosca and Il Trovatore as well as obscure gems such as the aria from Rimsky-Korsakov's Servilia. Fleming's voice is almost too lush and rich ('It's like being propositioned in a Jacuzzi,' one conductor said), but if you like luxuriant old-school opera, this is unmissable.
