Review: Cherry Ghost

Singer Simon Aldred's rough, sexy voice chills the bones and warms the soul. Looking like Daniel Craig's naughty younger brother doesn't do any harm either.

Stage: The Park

Time: Saturday, 3.20pm

Dress code: Cool, collected black shirts and trousers, singer Simon Aldred's smug, louche jeans held with a deeply fabulous tight white belt.

In summary: Bolton's wonderous wanderers, the best new band in Britain, bring some life to a wet windy Saturday with their huge-hearted, rich, Northern songs.

Highlight: Aldred's rough, sexy voice. In turn, it chills the bones and warms the soul. Looking like Daniel Craig's naughty younger brother doesn't do any harm either.

Lowlight: The sound, which often swings wildly in the showers.

Unusual occurrences: A bearded man in a rabbit costume dancing excitably at the front of the stage while the band played a dour song about love and loss. Each to their own, eh?

Mark out of 10: 9

Where they'll be this time next year: Other stage, Sunday 6pm. Perfect, hearty, end of festival fare.

Will be talking about this until: Well into the next year, it being the point when Cherry Ghost's star firmly takes its place in the firmament.
