Killian Fox

Harper Simon: Harper Simon

The son of Paul Simon may have had some help from his famous father, but Killian Fox is won over by his folk-pop style.

If following in the footsteps of popstar parents is an anxious business, for musical offspring, it isn't evident in this assured debut from Harper Simon, son of Paul. It's not just the voice that highlights their kinship: the whimsical folk-pop that breezes through this short record is a direct descendant of Simon Snr's work, minus the African influences. "Tennessee", co-written with his father, explains his affinity with the capital of country music – and he has recruited an embarrassment of country talent to back him up. The paternal connections surely helped, but Simon, a genial presence, gives us no reason to begrudge him.
