From her claw-like hand gestures to her keening yodel, Diana Vickers's X Factor stint marked her. Perhaps inevitably, her talent seems rather less unique outside that context. For, despite employing indie-minded collaborators such as Ellie Goulding and Lightspeed Champion, this well-crafted debut is given over to commercial box-ticking, matching generic electro-pop with the kind of tasteful balladry that suggests a Dido in-waiting. Potential hits abound, but here's hoping she develops a songwriting voice as compelling as her singing one.
