Memory Man review – Giorgio Moroder meets Daft Punk on BL_NK SP_C_S’ clever, literate debut LP

The obliquely named electronic artist comes up with accessible, poppy offerings on his debut LP, writes Molloy Woodcraft

One-man, New York bedroom-based BL_NK SP_C_S' debut LP is a far more accessible affair than his oblique moniker might suggest, channelling the likes of Giorgio Moroder and Electronic for synth-led backings to literate, poppy offerings with clever chord changes and hooks. Opener A Parting Gift is like a less housey Daft Punk while the next track Too Far Gone sounds a bit like Cyndi Lauper's band backing David Gray, and No Sleep boasts a quavering vocal line with some proper bite. The paranoid-sounding title track darkens the mood, with banks of big synths and edgy electric guitars.
