The Pierces: Creation review – harmonising in a minor key

The Alabama sisters explore their darker side, writes Molloy Woodcraft

Apparently Alabama sisters Allison and Catherine Pierce, now resident in LA, enlisted the help of a shaman and took ayahuasca to find their way to this, their fifth full-length offering. The tactic paid off, lending a slightly darker edge to their country-tinged MOR pop songs, but overall this record is much like its predecessor, 2011's You & I. The duo's USP is their lovely harmonising, evident throughout and much to the fore on numbers such as The Devil Is a Lonely Night and the pretty, minor-key I Can Feel. I like the Florence-esque bass drum and handclaps on the catchy Believe in Me.
